Your bank

Funds reach the linked business bank account.

Timing depends on approval, batch cutoffs, processing arrangements and the receiving bank. Holds, reviews and banking-day rules may affect deposits. A payment approval is not a funding guarantee.

SELL BEYOND YOUR LOCAL MARKET

Welcome customers carrying cards issued around the world.

Canadian and U.S. businesses can accept supported internationally issued cards through Clearly. Card-network acceptance, issuer approval and cross-border fees still apply.

This is international customer acceptance for your Canadian or U.S. business, not a promise of merchant acquiring in every country.

Major credit and debit cards

Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover are supported through enabled merchant-account setups. Canadian in-person configurations can include Interac. We confirm card brands and debit support for each sales channel.

Choose the currencies your setup needs

Ask about CAD, USD and available multi-currency options. The currency you display or charge and the currency deposited to your bank are separate choices, confirmed with the processor, gateway and account.

Multi-currency processing is not enabled on every account. Some setups require separate currency accounts; we confirm available presentment and settlement currencies before launch.

PRICING YOU CAN UNDERSTAND

Interchange-plus pricing separates the underlying card costs and Clearly’s processing markup. Your quote identifies monthly fees and optional gateway, equipment or other product costs.

No cancellation fees. Review your written account terms and any equipment or third-party agreements before committing.

A merchant account or an aggregated payment model?

Choose the account structure around your business, rather than assuming one model fits everyone.

DEDICATED MERCHANT ACCOUNT

A processing relationship reviewed for your business.

Underwriting assesses your business and processing needs before approval. Pricing, funding and supported connections are agreed for the account. This can suit businesses needing more configuration or cost visibility.

AGGREGATED PAYMENTS

A standardised platform-led way to get started.

An aggregator typically provides payment acceptance within a pooled account model. Published pricing and built-in tools can suit simpler requirements. Review its supported workflows, terms and funding arrangements.

Both models involve risk checks and can apply account reviews or holds. A dedicated merchant account does not guarantee lower cost, approval or unrestricted funding.

BUILT AROUND YOUR OPERATION

For businesses with more going on.

Growing volume, several locations and multiple sales channels bring different payment requirements. Clearly reviews the account structure and technology together.

Multiple locations and sales channels

Plan transaction reporting, account structure and payment connections across sites. One relationship may involve several merchant accounts.

Custom workflows and more complex businesses

Bring recurring billing, B2B transactions, international customers or an existing POS. Approval and product availability depend on the business and underwriting.

MERCHANT ACCOUNT QUESTIONS

Know the account before you choose it.

What is a merchant account?

A merchant account is the acquiring/processing relationship that allows your business to accept card payments and receive settlement into its business bank account. It is arranged around your business, payment channels and underwriting.

Which cards can I accept?

Supported setups include Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover. Canadian in-person debit can include Interac. Card brands, debit networks and channel support must be enabled for the account and technology.

Can I accept international cards?

Yes. Clearly supports Canadian and U.S. merchants accepting supported cards issued internationally. Card-network rules, issuer decisions and cross-border charges apply. This does not mean Clearly acquires businesses in every country.

Can I accept multiple currencies?

Currency options depend on your merchant account, gateway and processor. We confirm CAD, USD and other available options, and distinguish the charged currency from the settlement currency. Separate accounts may be required.

Does Clearly offer same-day funding?

Same-day and next-day funding options are available for eligible Canadian and U.S. merchant accounts. Timing depends on the account, batch cutoffs, receiving bank and any review or hold. We confirm the schedule during setup.

Can I use one merchant account for online and in-person payments?

Clearly can structure a payment relationship across online, in-person and remote sales. The final setup may use additional accounts or services depending on channels, countries, currencies and risk requirements.

Can I connect a gateway or keep my existing POS?

Yes, where a supported connection is available. Bring the POS or platform name, version and current hardware so we can check compatibility. Clearly supports gateway, terminal and POS configurations through its payment range.

What does a merchant account cost?

Your quote separates card costs, processor markup, account fees and selected products or services. Cost depends on the business, processing volume and payment environment. A free statement review can help compare an existing setup.

Are there cancellation fees or long-term commitments?

Clearly Payments does not charge cancellation fees. Review the written processing terms, service scope and any separate equipment or third-party agreement before signing.

How long does approval take and what do I need?

Timing depends on underwriting and complete documentation. Expect to provide business and ownership details, banking verification and, where relevant, processing statements or further supporting information. Approval is not guaranteed.

How does this differ from Stripe or Square-style processing?

A dedicated merchant account establishes an acquiring/processing relationship for the individual business. An aggregated model generally provides acceptance within a platform’s pooled structure. Compare pricing, supported workflows, account terms, funding and support for your needs. Neither model guarantees lower cost or freedom from reviews.
